Tourist Attractions in 'Pune'

SARAS BAUG :- It is a beautiful vast park in the heart of Pune City which has a 'jogging and walking track' and the lush green lawn of this garden along with the blooming flowerbeds attracts tourists.There is a 'Sidhi Vinayak Ganesha Temple' inside the Park premises which is visited by large number of devotees.
AGA KHAN PALACE:-Aga Khan Palace is a historically important monument which was built by Sultan Mohammed Shah Aga Khan III in 1892.It is a beautiful majestic building and served as a Prison for great Indian freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi,Kasturba Gandhi,Gandhiji's secretary Mahadev Desai and Sarojini Naidu.
This Palace is declared as a monument of National importance.
SHINDE CHHATRI:- It is a memorial dedicated to the 18th century military leader Mahadji Shinde, the commander-in-Chief of the Maratha Army.
MAHALAKSHMI TEMPLE,SARAS BAUG:- This temple which is situated at a walking distance from Parvati Hills is a major tourist attraction.The temple has been developed using white marble and have fine carving and sculptures which attracts everyone.
St. MARY'S CHURCH:- It is the oldest Church in the Deccan region and is known as the 'Mother Church of the Deccan'.The church was built to meet the spiritual needs of the British Soldiers stationed in and around Pune.
CHATURSHRINGI TEMPLE:- This temple was built during the reign of the Maratha King 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle'.Shrines of Goddess Chaturshringi,Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesha are here.
KHADAKWASLA DAM:- This dam attracts tourists in large numbers and situated at 20 km from the city of Pune.
Twin Dams in the vicinity 'Panshet and Varasgam' which supplies water for irrigation purposes are also attractions.
It is a  Hill Station which lies 120 k from Pune and 270 km from Mumbai.It is a vast Plateau bounded by valleys on all sides.Its highest peak is known as 'Wilson Point' which has height 1439 m.
This is the source of River Krishna which flows through Maharashtra,Karnataka,Telungana and Andhra Pradesh states.
The 'Fort of Pratapgad' built by Shivaji Maharaj is a tourist attraction.
Venna Lake is a major tourist attraction of  Mahabaleswar in which boat rides can be done.
Lingmala Waterfalls in Mahabaleswar is a spectacular sight which is ideal to visit during July to December.From the area around this waterfall beautiful views of other two waterfalls can be availed.
Sinhagad Fort built by Shivaji Maharaj is also nearby.
Tapola and Tapola Lake:-Situated  at a distance of 25 km from Mahabaleswar is a beautiful place.The lake is suitable for wind surfing and other adventure activities.
KAS PATHAR :- The Kas Plateau is situated at the Sahyadri hills near 'Satara'.
It is only 125 km from Pune and 25 km from 'Satara City'.In monsoons the plateau comes to life with picturesque view of various types of wild flowers that carpet the floor of the plateau.There are about 850 species of flowers,shrubs and grasses found here.Especially during August and September the area will be in full bloom and completely colorful.The area of the plateau is approximately 1000 hectare and is  at a height of 1200 m.
MATHERAN HILLS:-  Matheran Hill Station in the Raigarh District is stunningly beautiful which can not be reached by road transport but only by a toy train.
PACHGANI:- Is a spectacular Hill Station at a distance of 18 km from Mahabaleswar and people from Pune and Mumbai in large numbers come to stay here during weekends.

'Pune' Tourist Attractions

Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra and this city was known as 'Punya Nagara'(Holy City) in earlier times.There are large number of beautiful and ancient temples in and around  Pune.
Pune is considered as the Cultural Capital of Maharashtra State.
Pune has got Automobile Industries,Textile Manufacturing Industrial Units,IT related Companies,Government and Private sector research institutes, and many other types of Industrial units.National Defense Academy, College of Military Engineering and The Armed Forces Medical College are situated in Pune.Several ancient forts of Shivaji Maharaj and other rulers are seen in and around Pune which are all historically important and that attracts tourists.
Some of the tourist attractions of Pune includes:-
Shaniwar Wada
The remains of the Shaniwar Wada, which was the palace of the Prime Minister of Chhatrapati Shivaji can be seen and the 21 feet tall massive door known as 'Delhi Darwaza' is very attractive.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum
This museum has large collections of historically important artifacts like Paintings,Pottery,Sculptures,carved doors, and many other articles of interest.
Parvati Hill
It is a beautiful picturesque spot and the highest point in Pune.At the peak of the hill stands 'Parvati Hill Temple' of the 17th century which is another attraction.
Osho Ashram
Osho International Meditation Resort Ashram of Bhagwan Rajneesh is in Pune.
Bund Garden
Bund Gargen which is renamed as 'Mahatma Gandhi Udyan' is very beautiful.
Panshet Dam
Panshet Dam is also called as 'Tanaji Sagar Dam' and is located 50 km southwest of the city of Pune.Panshet Dam and Panshet Lake attracts visitors which is a marvelous sight.
Malshej Ghat
It is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats in the Pune District of Maharashtra.It is at a distance of 130 km north of Pune and 154 km from Mumbai.It is famous for landslides during monsoon.Birds species like Flamingo and Cuckoo are abundantly seen here.During monsoons countless number of cascading waterfalls can be seen in this area some of which will be very large.
Bhimashankar Temple
Bhimashankar temple or Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is one among the twelve Jyothirlinga Temples in India.This ancient temple is situated in the village of Bhagiri in Sahyadri Hills surrounded by dense forests.This area is a great scenic place for nature lovers,trekkers,jungle lovers, bird watchers etc.River Bhima(Chandraprabha) originates from here.
Bedse Caves
Bedse Caves located near Kamshet is a tourist spot.
Vetal Hill
During monsoon period this place will be gorgeously lush green.
Pataleswar Cave temple
It attracts large number of visitors.
Mulshi Dam
The Dam and the surrounding area is blessed with natural beauty.
Trishund Ganapati Temple
This exquisitely carved temple of 17th century is an elegant and beautiful temple with rare idol of Ganapati with three trunks.The idol depicts Ganapati with three heads,six hands and astride a peacock.

Lonavala (Lonavla in Marathi) and Khandala are adjacent twin hill stations in Maharashtra State which are very beautiful and there are large number of interesting tourist spots spread all over this area which are all very spectacular.
Lonavala which is in the district of Pune is only 96 km from the city of Mumbai  and 64 km from the city of Pune.Lonavala is a major stop on the railway line connecting Mumbai and Pune.Both the Mumbai-Pune Express Way and Mumbai Chennai Highway pass through Lonavala.
'Chikki'  which is a kind of sweet fruit is largely grown in Lonavala.Indian Navy's Technical Institute INS Shivaji is situated at Lonavala.
There are hotels and resorts available in plenty for a comfortable stay at both Lonavala and Khandala.
Places of interest mainly are:-
Lonavala Lake
It is only 1.5 km from the town and the surroundings are beautiful with natural scenery.
Valvan Dam
It is situated 2 km from the town and worth visiting.A garden at this place is a popular picnic spot.
Rajmachi Point
It is a viewing point from which the view of the surrounding areas are a  very splendid sight.
Tungarli Lake and Dam

This lake, Dam and surroundings are marvelous.
Bushi Dam
This beautiful dam is largely visited by tourists and a water fall nearby adds to its beauty.
Lohagad Fort
This fort was constructed by Shivaji and one has to climb 11 km to reach here.
Karla Caves
It is a cave complex of Shrines built with finely carved sculptures and were made
by Buddhist monks between 3rd to 2nd century B.C.
Bhaja Caves
Bhaja Caves are also Buddhist shrines built in ancient periods.
Visapur Fort
This was built by Balaji Viswanath during 1713-1720 CE.
Wax Museum
This is visited by tourists which is situated at Varsoli.
This place is famous for paragliding.
