WATERFALLS OF IDUKKI DISTRICT

Idukki District of Kerala is blessed with immense natural  beauty and this mountainous  district  has large number of picnic spots with lush green dense forests,hills and valleys,lakes,natural pools etc.World famous 'Periyar  Wildlife Sanctuary,  Munnar Hill station etc  are in this district.Idukki is known as 'God's Own District' while Kerala State is known as "God's own Country'.
At Thekkady, by conducting boating along the vast lake one  can see wild animals closely in their natural habitats when they come to the lake for drinking water.Idukki has large area of tea plantations at different locations and vast estates of tea plantations can be seen at the beautiful Hill Station  Munnar.Munnar was the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.It is now a popular resort town.
Idukki Hydro Electric Project is the largest in Kerala which produces a major portion of the electricity consumed in the state.The dam at Idukki is 'Arch Dam' which is the first of its kind in Asia and second in the world.The caves (Muniyaras) of Marayur with murals and relics from the stone age civilization is in Idukki District. 
The first Hydro Electric Project of Kerala 'Pallivasal'  is also in Idukki District.

Power House Waterfall

This is located on the way from Munnar to Thekkady and it cascade down a steep rock from a height of 200 m above sea level.The spot is extremely beautiful and an ideal place for a trek on the way to Periyar Wildlife sanctuary at Thekkady.

Thoovanam 

Thoovanam waterfalls and Rajiv Gandhi National Park near Marayur are famous tourist spots.To reach here one has to trek from 'Karimutti' forst station.

This is also situated near Cheeyappara Waterfalls.It is only 10 km away from Adimali along the Cochin-Madurai National Highway 49.(It is 42 Km away from Munnar).It falls from a height of 1000 Metres and the water is very clear.Trekking facilities are available. 



The Rainbow Waterfalls
This waterfall cascade down a rock from a height of 1500 metres is a wonderful attraction which can be seen in full swing throughout the year.The forest around is the home of various medicinal plants.This waterfall is also known as 'Keezhu Kuthu' water fall.
This picnic spot is known for rock climbing,mountaineering and camp tracking.

Thomman Kuthu Waterfall
This is located 20  km from Thodupuzha and this seven stage waterfall has at each stage there is cascade and pool beneath For adventurous people, it is best to trek to the mountain top along the banks of river 'Kannadiyar'  to enjoy this waterfall and the surrounding exhilarating scenic beauty.
This waterfall is also known as 'Ezhu Nila Kuthu' waterfall.The name 'Thomman Kuthu' is named after a tribesman 'Thomban'.
This is a series of 12 falls spread over an area of 5 kms.It is falling from a height of 1500 metres and falls on each step.

WATERFALLS IN KOTTAYAM DISTRICT

KESARI WATERFALLS
Kesari Waterfalls is also known as 'Valamjamkanam Waterfalls' and lies between Kuttikanam and Murinjampuzha.Valamjamkanam can be reached from Kottayam by road  and it is a  three hour journey  and one can utilize  KSRTC buses which goes to Kumali from Kottayam.The trek to the waterfall will be also enjoyable and adventurous.

 MARAMALA WATERFALLS

Maramala Waterfalls is near Eerattupettah in Kottayman District.It is 7 km from Teekoy rubber estate and one need to trek two kilometers through rocky path to reach this beautiful waterfall which falls from a height of 80 feet to a deep pool and the stream flows down to a river.

ARUVIKUZHI WATERFALL

Aruvikuzhi Waterfall is also a  very splendid sight  to watch but it is active during rainy season only.
Water gushes down at a height from 100 feet  and it is situated inside rubber plantations.
From Kottayam Railway station it is 20 km away via Oravakkal-Areeparambu-Koorapada to Aruvikuzhi.
It is an ideal location for picnic and  one can return to daily routine-refreshed.

Peruntheraruvi Waterfalls

Perunthenaruvi waterfalls situated in Pathanamthitta district is 36 km away from Pathanamthitta district headquarters and is in 'Vechoochira Panchayat'.
The waterfall is comparatively not very high but it is very wide.It is located in the western ghats of the Sahyadri range and the stream later joins river Pamba.
The literal meaning of 'Perunthernaruvi'  is 'The Great Honey Stream' or 'Sweetest Honey Stream'.The place is a popular  destination for both domestic and foreign  tourists.

The rocks would be slippery and tourists should be careful and they have have to be cautious about the small and wide gaps existing on these rocks.Those who want to take baths upper stream would be more suitable.The forest area surrounding this waterfalls is indeed very  spectacular.



This natural waterfall comes down a rocky path in to a ravine about 100 feet deep.
The nearest railway station in the district is Thiruvalla.

Ranni Town is only 12 km away.Erumeli town is just 10 km from here.
Chengannur is 48 km from here and from Chengannur Railway station premises KSRTC bus service is available daily to   Perunthenaruvi and back.The first service starts at 6.20 am and reaches there at 8.30 am.The bus goes via Ranny.
The nearest Airport is Trivandrum-138 km

PALARUVI WATERFALLS


Palaruvi Waterfalls situated in Thenmala 6 KM away from Kerala-Tamil Nadu border near Aryankavu on Kollam-Shenkottah road is one of the beautiful waterfalls in India and the place which it is situated is stunningly marvelous in scenic beauty.
The waterfall is one of the tallest  in India and  is 32nd in India regarding its height which is 300 ft(92 Metres).
It is a single drop horsetail type one which is on the course of 'Kallada' River.The word Palaruvi means 'Flowing stream of Milk'.
At the base of this waterfalls there is a shallow pond in which visitors can do swimming to refresh themselves.Approximately 1 Km trekking through the forest is needed to visit this waterfalls.The serene beauty of the surrounding places and forest areas are stunningly beautiful.
Palaruvi Waterfalls is situated 75 Km from Kollam and 152 Km from Thiruvananthapuram.It is 35 km away from Punalur.
